‘Ellipse’ was commissioned for Machynlleth Hospital as a sculptural focal point and communal meeting area. It consists of two interlocking steel rings. The horizontal ring forms a circular bench and is inlaid with CNC cut local slate and features the original slate sign for Machynlleth Chest Hospital which was saved by one of the staff. The vertical ring is lined with copper which was historically mined nearby. This ring is infilled with locally sourced slate roof tiles which were painstakingly laid by local stone mason Rhys Thorndyke.
